Along the whole Mayan Riviera starting from Puerto Morelos , different sinkholes "Cenotes" of sweet and crystalline water are located. Perfect  for snorkel and diving of caverns or only to swim and to enjoy the mother's nature gift.

Created thousands of years ago by rain water which filtered through the limestone surface, these rivers have become, with time, a subterranean paradise. Caverns and vaults with impressive rock formations, are found throughout these water filled tunnels.

Experts believe that during the Ice Age, when the water levels went down, rain filteres through the ground dragging minerals from soil to create thousands of stalagmites in the empty caverns. The melting of the poles caused water levels to rise , ultimately flooding these underground caverns and tunnels.

"Cenotes" were sacred to the Maya, they considered the entrance to the spiritual underworld and provided the only source of fresh water in the jungle.
